Real Estate Career in 2015

Have you been thinking about starting up a career in real estate? There's never a better time than now! Becoming a successful real estate agent is much more than simply showing homes to potential buyers. To start your career and to be successful in what you do, you will need to invest time into educating yourself, get your real estate license, choose a brokerage to work with and more. By taking advantage of these initial steps in starting a real estate career, you'll go from a beginner to a mogul in no time.

Educate Yourself

Before you jump right in to a career in real estate, it's important to have the proper education under your belt. Not only will educational courses ensure that you are familiar with different real estate practices, but it is also required in all states to take pre-licensing courses. The courses and hours of education that you must take will vary depending on your location. For example, in the state of California, a total of 3 college-level classes are required before pursuing a real estate career.

Getting Your Real Estate License

When starting your career, you will need to get your real estate license. To receive this license, you must pass both a state and national exam. Other requirements may include passing a criminal background check. Exam fees will vary from state to state, but an average of around $200 should be expected.

Selecting a Brokerage

One of the most important initial steps to take when beginning in real estate is to select a brokerage that you would like to work with. The brokerage, or agency, will help you to find potential home buyers and working with a brokerage is required in order to practice as a real estate agent. Brokers at the agency can help you to learn more about real estate and working in the field, such as learning the best ways to list and sell houses. It is important to work with a broker that has a good reputation and offers additional training to their real estate agents. To learn more about what others have to say about the brokerage, you can easily search for and view comments online.

Building Your Client Portfolio

Without clients, you will not be able to sell any houses. You will want to start to build your client portfolio by using your own personal network along with social networking in order to find those who may be looking to either buy or sell a home in the near future. It is also a great idea to look for a real estate mentor who will help to lead your towards buyer/seller contacts while splitting commissions with you.
